Welcome to the Australian Duathlon Series Website
A Duathlon is an event that consists of a running leg, a cycling leg and followed by another running leg in a format similar to Triathlon. However one major difference between the two is the removal of a swimming leg in favour of a second shorter running leg.
There are a number of Duathlon events held across the country in each state. The Australian Duathlon Series combines a number of the larger Duathlon events together into one single competition. Much like the ITU Duathlon Series, this Series gives competitors the opportunity to compete together across many different locations around the country.
Duathlon has played a minor role in our sport in Australia, yet remarkably Australian athletes have performed very well on the International Duathlon scene, often self funded. Greg Welch, Jackie Gallagher(Fairweather) earned Gold medals in both Duathlon and Triathlon. In Greg's case he also won a Long Distance Gold medal and an Ironman Gold medal. Rebekah Keat earned an ITU Junior Gold medal in 1997, prior to a long career in longer triathlon events.
The Australian medal tally at past World Championships with 7 individual Elite Gold medals, 4 Silver medals and 4 Bronze medals.
While not just providing a highly competitive (and fun) environment for many of our duathletes, each event also hosts races of varying distance to cater for those new to the sport, or who don't wish to take part in the championships but want a exciting and fun day out.
